Bimal Roy obtained B.Stat.(Hons.) & M.Stat. degrees from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata and Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of Waterloo, Canada. He has been a faculty member at Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata for past 27 years & Director of the institute since 2010. His research interests are: Cryptology, Discrete Mathematics, Statistical methods, Optimization Techniques etc. He initiated Cryptology research in India and provides leadership at the national level in this area. He is an accomplished researcher and well recognized internationally. He has research collaborators from USA, Canada, France, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hongkong etc. He held visiting positions at State University of New York, Institute of Technology at Utica, NY; INRIA, France; Chinese academy of Science, Beijing; Kyushu University, Japan; University of Ottawa, Canada; University of Waterloo, Canada etc. He is recipient of NASI-Reliance Paltinum Jubilee Award and IBM Faculty Award. He is currently member of NBHM Board and Program Advisory Committee
of DST, Govt. of India.
